Well, today was great all around.  Spent the early afternoon celebrating my mom’s 63rd birthday (it was the 14th), then had a 3 hour webinar as the first piece of Dean Holland’s Starting With Marketing Academy.

The birthday celebration was pretty fun, to say the least.  The orange chiffon cake was really tasty (homemade)!

The webinar was really awesome too!  One thing that strikes me about most training videos and webinars that I’ve seen is simply this: THEY’RE BORING!  I have seen (and unfortunately paid for) videos that have practically put me to sleep.  On top of that, a lot of videos seem to have a lot of ‘filler’ crap that isn’t necessary at all. Just last week I watched the first video of a 10 video course for work – 2 hours long.  Reviewing the notes that I took, there was maybe a half hour’s worth of actual USEFUL information there.  The rest was just fluff.  If the training wasn’t for work, I would have shut it off before a half hour.

Dean, on the other hand, well – he got straight to the point. He spoke for an hour and a half before opening the floor up for questions, and that first chunk got me 5 full pages of notes (plus the beginnings of a mindmap to follow). There was very little time during the presentation where I wasn’t writing down something – and that blows me away!

On top of that, Dean was EXCITED!  It’s really rare to find someone actually EXCITED about business, but Dean Holland is loving every second of it!

So, if you can’t tell – I’M EXCITED TOO!

It’s great to know that I’m learning from a guy with so much passion for what he’s doing here! On top of that, it wasn’t too long ago that he was where I am now.  He remembers the pitfalls because they’re still fresh in his mind – and that is wonderful!

Really, it’s been a rough couple weeks for me here.  My work is getting somewhat reorganized right now, since the managers have finally put some restrictions on our fearless leader.  He’s a brilliant idea man, and comes up with some of the most amazing possibilities for our company.  Problem is, he has a tendency to try to juggle too many things at once, and we (the rest of the employees) have to struggle playing catchup to it all.  Out of all of the projects we currently have going (including a complete migration of our sales platforms), we have fully completed…. NONE OF THEM! So, drama a-plenty on the work front, plus OVERTIME HOURS! WOO!!!

But, no matter.  I’ll still find time to do this – a little less time than I would like, but the time will be there for sure!  I’ll share any good info I get along the way as well, of course!
